Being a new belt and spring, how can you put one or the other on with little headache? Should the spring go on first then the belt or visa versa? I've tried both by hand, is there a certain tool that can be used to get the tight spring or belt on easily? Thank you.
I can definitely understand your need for some type of instructions on how to properly replace the tension spring on your tractor. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I did some research on the unit. At this time, I was unable to locate information that would be helpful in regards to your question. Some of these questions that are asked will need specific research and will be answered by an expert with-in two business days but usually sooner.
Put the spring on first. Then put the belt on. Here's how I do it: Have the secondary (bottom) belt on all the pulleys but the one on the left side of the mower deck. Now raise the mower deck all the way up and put the belt onto the backside of the pulley. You will need to put some pressure on it to hold it in place. Now reach under the mower deck with your other hand (have a glove on, blade may be sharper than you think) and turn the blade with that hand while you hold the belt onto the pulley with the other hand. As the blade turns, the pulley will turn and the belt will "walk" around go on. It's hard to do, but that's what I do. A side note: I actually wear gloves on both hands when I do this. Usually the glove on the pulley hand will get pinched between the belt and the pulley, so just keep spinning until it comes out. It's better to have the belt pinch a glove than skin on my palm.
