I've pulled both thermistors and tested in ice water. I dont remember the resistance (maybe 2.5 ohm) but they were exactly the same so I assume they're good. I pulled the diffuser. it was opened all the way, I let it thaw (not really frozen just wanted it to ambient) then reintalled it. it shut right away then opened back up (I did this twice). once it opened back up I tryed to get it to close by putting the fridge side themistor in ice water but could not get it to close again. I guess my question is is it the thermistor ot the diffuser or something else. I've read alot of forums that mentioned a diagnostics test but cant find specifics on how to perform it and of course my manual is missing. any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks, Tom
The food freezing in the refrigerator can be an inconvenience and I will be happy to help. I am adding a link below that describes a similar question. I hope this helps while you wait for your expert response.
Thank you for your question. It appears you have a good working knowledge of how the controls operate in this unit. Now, it would seem the thermistors are ok since both checked the same but at 32 degrees, the resistance should be approx. 8700 ohms. If the resistance you listed is correct, it would mean both thermistors are faulty. This would be very unusual. Now, also, since the damper did open and close, it indicates the diffuser assembly is ok. I recommend checking the thermistors again and if they do check ok, the control board # 8201661 will need to be replaced. If you get the same reading the thermistors # 2188819 will need to be replaced. These parts are available at SearsPartsDirect . I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.
ok. I replaced both thermistors with no effect. I pulled the control board and couldn't find anything smoked on it. is there a way to test the board before I purchase a new one? can I be positive its not the difusser since it closes and opens on power up? do you have the schematics? Thanks again for all your help. Tom
Tom, if the diffuser opens and closes, it should be ok. This indicates it's not receiving a signal when to open and close. It does appear the board will need to be replaced. I'm attaching the information to place this board into a diagnostic mode and also the wiring diagram. If it does open the door in step 5 of the diagnostic mode, it will indicate for sure, the diffuser is ok and the board will need to be replaced. I hope this will help you.
