Kenmore range 66572023100 instructions for LP conversion indicate "end of cap is solid when set for Nat gas. I have Nat gas but had to set cap for LP to get oven to properly operate. What am I missing & is my manual incorrect?
I understand that you want to convert your self cleaning gas range. While you are waiting for an expert to respond, I have attached some helpful links below that may provide information to assist you with your question. Have a great day!
Thank you for your question on the position of the LP Nat cap on the pressure regulator/safety valve.
If the cap has a protrusion on the top of it, that is the position for Natural gas.To convert to LP you have to turn it over so the protrusion is pushing in on the regulator diaphragm to hold the regulator open for LP because the LP tank would have the main pressure regulator. If you have to have the blocking pin in the down position then I would say that you either do not have enough gas pressure or the regulator will need to be replaced. What is the oven doing that you are inclined to believe that it is a problem with the regulator? This range has the direct spark ignition system which is different for other models and you could be having a problem with that system not controlling the burner correctly. Please let me know what you find to be the case I we can continue to troubleshoot with that information.Sam A.According to the manual, the flame should be 1/2 inch long. The flame on my oven was 1/8 to 1/4 inch long. Preheating the oven for 350 took over 1/2 an hour. When I changed the pressure regulator/safety valve cap to the LP position (the protrusion pushing in - the stove attached to natural gas) the flame increased to 1/2 inch. The broiler flame is only about 1/8 inch long. I purchased this stove from Sears as a refurbished stove a number of years ago but just started using it. I had to change the burner orifice spuds because the flame was only 1/4 to 1/2 inch long & took forever to heat a pan. Do I need to change the cap back to the Nat gas position & open the orifice hood for the oven & broiler? I have not touched either of the orifice hoods.
Thank you for the update on the gas range. It sounds like from your details of the problem that you need to replace the pressure regulator/safety valve. The orifices should be in the up position and not turned down for LP gas. If this range was used on LP gas before you purchased it the orifices may have been screwed down onto the smaller LP orifice size hole. If the orifice is down use a 1/2 open ended wrench to turn them up about 2 1/2 turns to get them back to the natural gas orifice size. This may solve your problem. Then change the regulator back to the natural gas position. Please let me know what you find out. Sam A.
Thanks for the guidance. Unscrewed the orifice 2 1/2 turns & changed the regulator back to natural gas position. Orifice for broiler extremely hard to turn as oven had been through self-clean cycle before I purchased stove. Have good flame on oven & broiler. I just needed to follow all instructions for conversion. Orifice adjustment was in instructions but I passed over that step.
