Craftsmen Tractor Mower doesn't always continously turn over.

My Craftsmen Tractor Model 917.270722 does not want to consistantly turn over. The battery is new with plenty of CCA's. All wire connections appear ok. I have a compression reading of 180 psi. When the solenoid engages the starter, I get about one revolution of the motor. If I keep turning on the key, sometimes it turns the motor over enough to get it started.

This problem is generally due to worn valves or a failing starter motor. I suspect the valves first as it's much more common to see them out of adjustment than what it is for the starter to have failed.

You can watch THIS VIDEO to see the procedure for adjusting the valves on your engine.

Let me know where we stand on this after you do the valves.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
