Replacement cooktop indicator light doesn't turn off.

Kenmore Cooktop 790-42734403. One of the burner indicator lights burned out. We ordered replacement 18044827 from Sears Parts website. After installation, light stays on. We switched the wires with no change. Your help is appreciated.

Either a contact in the switch is not opening or the contact in the limiter on the element is not opening. Either of these failures will cause the indicator light for that particular element to remain on continuously.

Testing for this problem requires testing the 2 contacts with an ohm meter or voltmeter. If you want to troubleshoot the cooktop, reply on this thread and I will furnish instructions for testing the limiter and switch.

If you are not comfortable making these tests, you can go to Home Services and get a Sears technician to repair the cooktop.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
