Is there a way to adjust or repair the oven door on my Kenmore range so the light will not stay on. I believe it is model 790.9621
A non working Oven is not something any of us want to see. If you are technically handy, this is a good site to get instruction and fix some things yourself. If you do not feel confident doing your own repairs, an option is to visit Sears Home Services and use the scheduler. While you wait for the expert to review your model, you can check the bottom link for some possibilities. Hope this is of help.
To repair the range, the door hinges and the receptacles the hinge slides into must be replaced.
Some models and serial numbers have been listed on a bulletin and Sears will replace the parts free.I recommend you get the complete model and serial number off the plate on the range and call 1-800-4MYHOME (1-800-469-4663). Give the information to the agent and they will tell you if your range is included. If you want to replace the hinges, reply on this thread and send the complete model number. I will send you the part number you need and instructions for replacing the hinges.Jimmy K. Thank you for your response. This has been a nightmare. We currently have a bunge cord holding the door closed so the light will stay off-it looks like a redneck kitchen!!! I called as you suggested and ended up talking to 4 people last evening, 2 of whom I could understand and could seem to understand me. Parts transferred me to Warranty and I was put on hold, but eventually the music stopped and a computerized voice asked for my 10 digit phone # and led me through a menu that eventually ended the call with Whirlpool. It said this is not business hours, please call back. I called Sears back this morning and talked to 4 people. Fortunately the last person was someone I could understand. I try to be tolerant, but it is frustrating to tell someone several times that I did not say what they think I said and to ask them several times to repeat because I have no idea what they said. The last person was in the parts dept again and eventually said yes it is on a list and was poorly designed, but no Sears will not pay for it. So I have a part coming at a cost of $57.16 and assurance that it will be accompanied by instructions. The model is 790.96224401. No one seemed to want the SN. This stove was new and put into a new house in 2005. Again, thanks for your help. I needed to vent my frustration, but I will also write Sears. I am very disappointed in the whole experience.
Brenda, I am very sorry for the way you were treated on the phone. We have too much of that and it is not what the company wants. I hope upper management is addressing the problem. I will send you instructions for replacing the door hinges in case you need them. Replacing the hinges and receptacles is not a hard job and you might prefer to just do it yourself. If you have questions, reply on this thread and I will be glad to help.

Hi Jimmy, The part came today and the new hinges are in. We did not change the receptacles as it did not seem necessary, but will keep them of course, just in case. The light is out and the bungee cord has been put away. Thanx for your help.
