Hello, I have a very noisy Bosch that I would like to operate on - that is provided I could actually figure out how to remove the trim package so I can remove this from the wall. Anyone know how the trim is fastened? I believe the trim kit is HMT 5050, but not sure. What I am sure of is that there is no screw or fastener visible anywhere. Darn this thing anyway
Managemylife.com is a great place to find the answers to just about anything, especially on appliances. Microwaves contain high-voltage components that can retain a lethal electrical charge of up to 2200 VAC -- even when the microwave is unplugged. Repairs and adjustments, even minor ones such as removing the outer case, can cause microwave leakage. A microwave shielding leakage test should be performed after any microwave service. It is for these safety reasons that we are unable to guide you in microwave repairs and instead recommend scheduling service with a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online with Sears Home Services or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME. We thank you for your understanding in this matter and hope we can help you with other questions and repairs in the future.
Thanks, Jimmy, and I completely understand radiation and high voltage safety. I designed, built, and repaired x-ray machines for 24 years. I just need to remove the fascia from my microwave so I can lubricate the turn-table motor shaft. AND I do have a leakage meter. And I do understand the nature of DC circuits in the magnatron and the associated capacitors and the pain of a DC discharge. HELP
Troy, I regret that we can't help you with this microwave problem. With your extensive experience, you do sound qualified to do this work safely. But because ManageMyLife is a public forum, we can't take the risk that people who aren't qualified might use our information and seriously hurt themselves. Normally at ManageMyLife.com we like to help you with all of your repairs, but microwaves (and also situations involving gas leaks) are just too dangerous. I know it may be frustrating. Please understand that it's our obligation to all of our customers to put safety first.
All is well, and the problem, albeit not solved, has been identified. The problem is that the unit is not actually a stand-alone MW installed above an oven, but instead part of an oven-microwave combo. None of the service lit deals with the trim panel removal, but having found the correct manual (combo) it is easy to see why the trim fascia won't budge. Not supposed to. Now to remove the combo unit and fix the noisy bearing. Hugs...
