Kenmore range - disconnecting the control panel

Hi, I have a Kenmore electric range, model #790.95741991. Yesterday it started beeping and showing the F1 error code. Hitting cancel and unplugging the unit didn't resolve the problem. I learned that the control panel/clock is most likely the problem, so I took the back panel off to examine the control panel. I have disconnected the five main wires (white, rose, blue, black, yellow) from the panel to stop the beeping and ordered part #316101001. The part takes 1 week to arrive, I was told, but I Really need a functioning stove top before then. Can I leave the control panel wires disconnected, wrap them in electrical tape, and plug the range back in to use the burners until the replacement part arrives or is that really risking electric shock? Thanks, Rachel

If you wrap the ends of the wires with electrical tape and position them so they don't overheat, you can use the top burners without causing a problem.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
