We are having problems with our Kenmore side by side refrigerator Model 106.56823600 with a lot of frost build in the freezer and building up ice on the bottom of the freezer floor. When you chip it away, it just comes back again. The inside of the refrigerator the air vents get frosted up solid and there is a lot of condensation on the middle wall between refrigerator and freezer. The freezer is also freezing food very hard. We have cleaned the bottom coils. We are wondering what part is not working. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Laurie
Having frost buildup in the freezer can be inconvenient and cause some water damage so I will be happy to help. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I did manage to find a link that will provide you with some good tips to help you with your freezer problem. I hope my link is useful.
Thank you for your question. I can understand your concern about this icing condition. This appears to be a dual problem. The ice build up on the freezer floor will be caused by a frozen drain. To clear the drain, remove everything in the lower section of the freezer, so the back panel (# 17 in picture) can be removed. With the panel removed, you will see the evaporator coil and directly under the coil is the drain trough (pan). The trough will probably be full of ice that will need to be removed. A hair dryer works well for this. Just be careful not to get it too hot. With the ice out of the trough, you will be able to see the drain hole, which will be plugged with ice. Use hot water to clear the drain hole. Keep working the hot water into the hole and wiping the excess water. This can take quite awhile, depending on how deep the ice is. This will need to be done until you get a good water flow down to the bottom drain pan.
The hard freezing and condensation on the center wall can be due the freezer getting excessively cold (below zero degrees). To check the temperature, place a thermometer between some packages. Air temperature is not a good check. If it is too cold, usually adjusting the cold control to a warmer setting, will correct this problem. I hope this will help you.
