Kenmore Airconditioner Model 253.70051

Hello, I have a new Kenmore Airconditioner Model 253.70051 (5200btu). The problem I am having is that the unit does cool the room but it does not remove the humidity like other AC units I have had in the past. After running for a day everything in the room feels damp! I have looked at the manual and confirmed that the unit is installed with the proper outward angle but it does not drip any water out of it, and I do not see any water builing up inside the tray? This does not seem normal to me, any ideas? Thanks soggy and unhappy

When your AC unit is not working properly it can be frustrating. I was able to find a similar question on the site that was answered by an expert. Take a look at the link and see if it can help you in any way while you are waiting for an experts response to your specific issue.

Thank you for your question. I can understand your concern. This new unit will work differently then the older one you had. The water will not drip like the older unit, unless there is an excess of moisture (humidity) in the area that could cause the drain system to overfill. These units are now designed to pick up the drain water and sling it into the condenser coil. This prevents the dripping and helps cool the condenser. This is a very good energy saving feature and prevents a water dripping problem. I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.

Thank you for your response. The new technology that you describe would explain why it does not drip like older models, but that does not explain why it does not remove the humidity from the room? After 24hours of operation everything in the room is very damp. Is this normal for this model or do I have a problem. I need to find a way to correct the problem or get rid of this unit, I can keep using it this way. Note: I am running an older style AC unit in another room of the house and that room is cool and dry? Any ideas?

This type of problem will occur when the unit is oversized. It will cool the room down in a short period of time and shut off. It will continue to cycle and cool the room in this manner but these short cycles, will not remove much humidity. I hope this will help you.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
