I have a crafstman garage door opener 139.53975SRT1. Replaced the worm gear assembly. Now the opener wants to start in the down position. I tried to adjust the up limit and it still starts in the down and moves about 3 feet up and stops. How do I get back to the point where it starts in the up position? I don't have the trolley connected to the door.
I know how important it is to have a good working garage door opener in the home so that you can have access to the garage any time of the day. While you are waiting for your expert answer, since you already replaced a part I suggest you schedule service and have a certified tech come out to check the garage door opener. I hope my link is useful.
Loosen the chain enough so that you can remove it from the sprocket above the motor unit. With the door closed run the motor until the sprocket turns clockwise and stops. With everything attached replace and tighten the chain. Some adjusting of the up and down limits will probably be required.
