check oil level in 921.166400 compressor

Have a new 921.166400 12 gal air compressor. Added oil to reservoir and attached air cleaner as required. Manual says to check oil at each start up. But the site glass is not clear enough to check the fluid level. It's black at first shut down, then clears to a dingy grey after the unit is inop for a while. Can't distinguish the oil level. Is this normal? Or am I heading for a brand new burned up compressor. This one is replacement for your 15 gal compressor that was recalled for motor burn up. help

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the air compressor. I do not think it is time to replace the air compressor. The sight glass can be replaced. The part number for the sight glass it E100088 and can be ordered from this link . Once you have the new sight glass drain the oil out of the compressor first. Then remove the old sight glass and install the new one. After you have the sight glass in go ahead and fill the compressor with oil.

Please let me know if you need further assistance on the air compressor.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired by a Sears technician. Here is a link that will provide the nearest drop-off locations: Sears Home Services .

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
