I know how important it is to get rid of unwanted bugs and weeds on the home lawn and I will be happy to help. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I did manage to find two links that will provide you with some good information to help you with your question. I hope my links are useful.
Your question sent me in search of answers, and I found some interesting information. First, corn meal and corn gluten meal are different. Corn meal is ground-up corn; corn gluten meal is a byproduct of the corn milling process.(Now, how it is that corn -- which from what I read contains no gluten -- has a byproduct that contains gluten remains a mystery to me until I do more digging.) From what I've read, plain corn meal won't kill weeds. The safelawns link goes into a little more detail. - - - - - I also looked into the use of corn meal to kill ants and found a nice Garden Forum discussion of natural remedies used to get rid of ants. One suggests that the ants eat so much corn meal that they die. I've not yet tracked down any research on the topic, but I'll keep looking. I've attached a link to the discussion.
