I understand your concern toward wanting to make some adjustments on your mower to make sure it is working great. While you are waiting for an expert answer, I suggest you add to the thread of this question and include the full model number of your mower so that the expert can provide you with a more detailed answer. I did manage to find a link that describes a similar project and I am attaching it in the link below. I am also adding a second link in where you can enter your model number and a parts list diagram will pop up. I hope my links are useful.
I have three wires not counting the batt post to the solenoid , one wire coming off solenoid and two wires coming under the top of the motor one red one orange ? thanks for your help ... The best i figured out was the two wires coming out from under the top of the motor was the charging system
On most models the solenoid will have 4 wires connected to it. A large red cable from the battery. A large red cable to the starter. A small black ground wire (that may or may not connect to the harness) and a white "trigger" wire from the ignition switch. On some models the charging wire from the alternator/regulator will connect with the large red cable to the battery at the solenoid. On other models, this wire is connected on the battery end of that large cable. It just depends on the machine really.
