I have a Kenmore gas range/oven, Model no. 79071153700, Ser. no. vf73132471. The range works fine, but the oven just stopped working. It worked this morning, but quit this afternoon. It'll display the oven temp., but will not heat up, we don't see flames, we don't smell gas. I tried the broiler and the same, no flame, no gas smell. I tried to unplug it, to see if it might reset, no help. Any help would be greatful. Thank you, Chris
Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.Based on you symptom and details the oven igniter has likely failed. The oven igniter must glow red and it must pull enough current to cause the oven gas valve to open. You will need to remove the oven bottom in order to access the glow bar igniter. If you find it glowing red then it's likely weak and it needs to be replaced. If it's not glowing then it could be broken or burnt in two or it may not be getting voltage. If the oven igniter is not glowing then it should be disconnected and tested for continuity with an OHM meter. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing your range. If the oven igniter tests okay, then you should disconnect the two wires from the oven gas valve and test the gas valve for continuity. If it tests okay, the oven control board has likely failed and will need to be replaced.I added an image below of the igniter circuit.
