Kenmore Top Freezer Refrigerator - Middle Hinge Pin Bracket. The hinge pin is stuck and nothing I do can unscrew it from the bracket. I need to flip it so that I can change the side the doors open on. I got a replacement part from Sears direct but have the same issue. Why is the pin in so tightly? What can I do to change the orientation of the door? Has something changed with this bracket and the Use & Care guide hasn't been updated? Page 12 states that using a quarter inch socket wrench you should loosen and remove this pin. When I tried with the first one the bevelled edge got stripped. I took it to OSH they put it in a vice and also could not loosen the pin. Any ideas, suggestions?
It sounds like the pin on your refrigerator has been giving you a lot of trouble and I hope I can provide a helpful link for you. While you are waiting for an expert answer, I suggest you add the full model number of your refrigerator so that the expert can provide you with a more detailed answer. I am adding a link in where you can enter your model number and a parts list diagram will pop up in where you can get some great parts for your appliance and you can see a parts list diagram. I hope my link is useful.
I'm sorry you are having this problem. Unfortunately, this has not been a problem. When checking the replacement hinge, it shows to be a complete assembly. If the pin on the new hinge is also so tight that the head strips out, I recommend taking the hinge to the nearest repair center and let them remove the hinge pin. I'm listing a site you can access to locate the nearest repair center. Here is a link that will provide the nearest drop-off locations: Sears Home Services . Thank you for using Manage My Life.
