My Craftsman GDO model # 139.53990D closes but does not open with the remotes. Only the motion detecting control console button works to both open and close.

My Craftsman GDO model # 139.53990D does not open with the remotes (handheld and outside keypad). They do work to CLOSE the garage door but not to OPEN the door. The motion detector open/close button always works. The led that flashes when the remote are locked out is not flashing. Resetting and reprogramming the GDO with the remotes does not work. The safety sensors are both glowing correctly. The only thing left seems to be to replace the curcuit board?

Nothing that he suggests applies in my case. The remotes work just fine for closing an open door (both inside and outside the garage) so it's not the batteries or RF interference. I talked to a parts representative and his opinion was that if it was the circuit board the remotes won't work to open or close. Since it's functioning like the vacation/lock switch is turned on (controlled by the motion decector control panel) that maybe replacing that will do it. I've searched and looked at a few hundred of the questions and you are right many of them are very similar but done of them fit my symptomns.

If you have eliminated the possibility of RF interference then it is your logic board.

At this point, given the things you've tried and mentioned, I have to agree with Don. I think it may very well be the logic board. There isn't really anything else that would cause this to happen. Honestly, I've never run across one doing this exact thing.

I spoke with another technician to get a second opinion and his assessment is the same and Don and I; logic board.

You can go HERE to order that and have it shipped to your home.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!

Well, before I ordered a new logic board I tried a couple of other things. First I disconnected the motion control panel and opened and closed the garage door using a simple doorbell switch (thinking that maybe the motion control panel was somehow telling the GDO that it was in vacation mode). The door opened and closed but the remotes since wouldn't open the garage door. Then I tried unplugging the GDO for 30 secords and then plugging it back in (if my computer locks up, power down and reboot). Then I replace the doorbell switch with the motion control panel and reprogrammed the GDO with my remote. My remoted continued to work both inside and outside the garage to close the door. Then I tried to open the door and it WORKED!!!!. Then I reprogrammed it with the keypad and it's now working to open and close as well. Just need to reprogrammed the other car.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
