In my 9 year old freezer top refrigerator model no 106.70204990, every time the compressor turns off, a loud bang occurs. And this happens every 12 minutes. The compressor is on for 6 minutes then off for 6 minutes. Is this too frequent? Lately (the past 3 hrs) he compressor is vibrating when it starts. What is the problem and is it time for a new refrigerator.
I can understand your concern over the refrigerator making noise. You are unsure if this is a common issue. I provided a few things for you to look at the first link is the Owner's Manual, their it has great troubleshooting information about noises. The second link is where an expert is speaking upon a similar issue. He provided great information, i hope that it's helpful and make you understand what the problem might be.
Thank you for your question. If the refrigerator is making a loud bang or clunking noise, the problem is most likely failed mounts in the compressor. The only way to correct this problem is to replace the compressor. The cost to replace the compressor usually exceeds the value of the refrigerator. I have priced the cost of the compressor and it is $425.00. Then you have the labor cost. I am not sure what the labor cost is now but was around $200.00 4 years ago. If the refrigerator is still working fine it is just making the clunk noise it may continue working for years. I a refrigerator do the same thing so I bought a new one. I put the old refrigerator in the garage for sodas and it is still running fine. that was 5 year ago. If you would like to see the refrigerator we offer now please click on the following link.
