My dryer (model 110.8508) is about 5 years old. A couple of days ago, it didn't have any power so I flipped the circuit breaker and it started working. I've been using it the last couple of days and used it yesterday morning. Last night when I put a load in to dry, it didn't work. The control panel is on, but when I select the settings, and press start, it doesn't do anything. I flipped the breaker and that didn't help. I tried turning it on again and it didn't start. I left the room for several minutes and when I returned, there was a burning odor in the laundry room and the inside of the dryer was hot. It seems as if everything is working except for the drum. Any ideas?
This appears to be a defective motor and switch. It's possible the thermal fuse, the belt switch or the control could be faulty also. For the element to heat without the motor running, indicates the centrifugal switch, which is part of the motor is stuck and will need to be replaced. To check the other parts listed, will require the use of a meter. I recommend having a technician make these checks. I'm listing a site you can access, to have a tech come out. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services . If you would like more assistance, additional details will be needed.
