What is the best way to get rust off of an old metal front steps railing?

Unfortunately there is no real easy way or shortcut from hand sanding or machine sanding, other than sand blasting. Just make sure and protect your hands and eyes on this job. After it is prepped make sure and protect it as soon as possible. Thanks BB
