does this indicate the button is bad ? this happens when there is no light on in the button but work fine if the light is on.

Either your wall station is bad, the wiring is being pinched behind the wall station or the bell wire itself is faulty. I would take the button off the wall first and leave it hooked up to make sure it did not have the wire in a bind. Most of the time the screws are just tightened too much or the wire is balled up on itself. If that is not it I would replace the bell wire next since it is the cheapest. Just note that the wire is color coded and the wall statipn is polarized to these colors. If you get it backwards the light just won't be on but it WILL work, just no light. Just reverse wires to fix. If this does not do it I would get a new wall station. Thanks BB

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
