When its 45 outside my garage door opener will not close. Light blinks and clicks , why?

On 45 degree day's my garage door opener will raise but to close it you have to hold the button on the wall for it to close. If you just push and release the remote or wall switch the light blinks and it clicks and will not shut. It works just fine when the temperature is above 50. Just can't figure out why the temp would not make it work. It's model 139.53628SRT craftsman. HELP.

This might be one of two things.

First find the DOWN FORCE adjustment on your opener. It will be on the back or side of the unit. Turn it clockwise 1/3 turn. Do a 2x4 safety reversal test after all adjusting.

Also look at the safety sensors next time this happens. there should be an led light on both of them and they should be on. Most of the time they get bumped and need to be lined back up. They should point at one another. If you cannot get then to line up then check the wire for damage or breaks. If the wire is good you may need new sensors. We recommend a surge protector on all openers. Thanks BB

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
