On a Sears gdo can I shorten the rail by 13"?

I am looking at the Sears gdo with two lights, one on each side. The stock model with the motor measures 124". I only have 111" of clearance. Can I cut 13" off of the last pole for the rail and still install it? I have a standard 7' high door.

First of all the screw drive opener is by far the easiest to shorten. If I were you I would do it with a screw drive as all you do is cut off the 13" with a circular saw with a carbide metal cutting saw(wear safety glasses) and then re-drill the holes in the end for the bracket. A belt drive can't be shortened. A chain drive can be shortened but you have to take off equal amounts of chain and cable. This requires some specialty tools to do. I would do a screw drive. But just remember the door will not lift as high and make sure the cars fit before you drive them in. Thanks BB

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
