Craftsman garage door opener model 139.53975SRT1 does not function. Amber light flashes 5 times - what is the code? Lights work but door does not open. Possible voltage spike. Suspect logic board.
First check the openers trolley to make sure it is not stuck on the upper stop bolt on the track. If it is you will need to loosen the chain and take out this bolt and adjust the up travel down to back it off. Then reattach the chain in the same position. You might need to adjust the up or down travel after this.
Sometimes the 5 flashes is a fault in the rpm sensor. Be sure the black interrupter cup is pushed all the way on the motor shaft and the rpm sensor is connected properly to the wire harness. If there is no problem with the interrupter cup or the connection, replace the rpm sensor. The only other reason that a five flash occurs is if you have ran the opener too much in a 15 min. period and it got too hot. To fix this unplug the unit for 15 min. than plug back in. I am sending you the following information because it is frequently a problem after the gears have been replaced. When you removed the worm gear you removed the small gear that drives the up and down limit switch. In the process of the repair the limit switch and the position of the trolley might have gotten out of synchronization. You might need to adjust the up or down limits too.You need to open or close the door and remove this small gear again. Manually turn the limit switch so the center contact almost touches the up or down contact to match the location of the trolley. Install the drive gear and adjust the up and down limits properly. Thanks BBThank you Bob B. for your answer. After pricing just the circuit board with shipping and tax, I have decided to replace the entire unit for just a little more. And I will end up with spare parts. I did not say that we had lighting while we were gone and had a GFI trip, so I suspect the board.
