My Craftsman snowblower, model 536-887993, sputters and dies. It seems it gets wet from snow. Help!

I put tape across the openings on the top around the spark plug and this seems to help but not guaranteed. This was never a problem the first couple of years when it was new.

If you have not replaced the spark plug, do so. Check the tightness of the rubber cap on the spark plug. It needs a tight seal. Be sure you are running the engine at full throttle. The fan on the engine blows the snow away while you are running it. Be sure the gasoline in the snowthrower is less than 5 weeks old.

Fan? Didn't know there was one. Are the blades on the flywheel the fan? The snow collects on top of the cowling where the plug sticks up through. It gets wet with melted snow and drips through the joints in the cowling. I'm not certain but it seems this is when it quits. Mopping up the wet as it accumulates seems to help but no guarantee - and dragging it back up the driveway is a pain - litterally.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
