What do I use in my Craftsman chain drive tiller box? Does it use oil or grease?

It is a Craftsman tiller model number 247298750. The brass bushings wore out and I have replaced them but don't know what to use in the casing for lubrication. Does it need grease or oil. There are no fittings for either one.

The transmission in your tiller uses grease. The grease should be applied to the gears and shafts while the transmission is opened. Be sure to coat the chain good.

A thick coating of good grade axle grease should be liberally applied to all moving parts. Don't attempt to fill the entire transmission housing with grease.

There should be a small bolt on the outside of the transmission housing you can remove and install a zerk fitting for a grease gun.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
