We just bought it new and assembled it, and the handle rotates a few inches up and down on each side. (We went back to our OSH to check the sample one on the show room floor and it does the same thing.) Our past experience with rotary edgers has always been with a handle that is stiff and firmly connected to the edger body. Is this "wiggle room" by design, and if so, for what purpose? We have not used the edger yet and are trying to decide whether or not to return it, or add a bolt to take out the wiggle. Please tell us why Craftsman designed it this way since the older edgers are not like this.
The handle should not have play in it. I suggest looking at the instructions in the owners manual to see if the assembler at the store put the trimmer together correctly. You can download or print an owners manual at [www.managemylife.com]. Enter the model number as 536.7723 to see the manual.
If you don't see something simple to correct the problem, exchange the edger for another one.Member
