What are maintenance free options for ground cover needed for a hillside next to my driveway in Southwestern Ohio?

We are putting in a new retaining wall that will level the hillside to be more even with the driveway. I am looking for something fast spreading as well as something that may "droop" over the wall for the sake of the neighbors. It is just an ugly 4' concrete wall. Ivy mixed with some flowering ground cover would work. I don't want to weed it or do much of anything to it. I just want it to grow and spread quickly! I live in zone 6 (Southwestern Ohio).

Here are some ground cover options to consider that should meet your needs:

  • English Ivy
  • Ground Ivy (Creeping Charlie)
  • Mondo Grass
  • Blue Star Creeper
  • Wild Strawberry
The English Ivy and Creeping Charlie would help to cover the wall. The Blue Star Creeper blooms nearly all year. A combination of one or two of these ground covers would likely work and be low maintenance.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
