The best wood to use on an outside deck that will have constant exposure to the sun is IPE (pronounced ee-pay) wood. This is an extremely hard and durable wood from South America. It can be UV treated to retain its original color or it will weather to a light gray color. The original color can be restored by using a pressure washer. It is naturally resistant to rot, decay and insects without the use of chemicals.
