Craftsman 1/2HP garage opener. Up, no down. Sensors are green, have voltage on 2&3. Other ideas?

Craftsman 1/2 HP garage door opener. FCC ID: HBW1127. Part No: 414A315-7D. 11/97. Opens with wall button. didn't check remote. Won't close with either button or remote. Green reset light is flashing 5 times, pause, then repeats. Pressing wall button causes light to go on and stay on for duration. Pressing remote causes light to go on for 3-5 seconds. Press and hold reset button causes reset light to be steady green until either button or remote is pressed, then reverts to 5 flash pattern. Both sensors are green, and there is 6.37 volts DC across terminals 2 and 3. Other ideas?

There are only a couple of reasons a 5 flash occurs.

1-the motor is overheated. If you run it a lot in a 15 min period it will do this. To solve this unplug the unit for 15 min and try again.

2-The rpm sensor is bad in the unit, or needs to be reset. This is the sensor that keeps track of the revolutions. It is located in side the motor assembly. This needs to be replaced if the unit moves 6-8" and stops. To rest unplug for 15 min. and then try again, if it still occurs it needs to be replaced.

3-The only other reason for this code is that the trolley is stuck on the top stop bolton the track. It will humm but not move. You will need to take the top bolt out and adjust the up travel down so the door does not operate as far up. thanks BB

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
