Is it hard to replace the gear and sprocket assembly on a Craftsman garage door opener model 139.53975SRT1?

The sprocket just sheared off need to replace. Can I just replace the sprocket or do I have to do the whole assembly?

Replacing the gear and sprocket assembly is pretty easy. Replacing the worm gear makes it a pretty rough job.

If the worm gear and the regular gear are ok, you can replace just the sprocket. In order to get the sprocket, you have to order the gear and sprocket assembly.

To replace the gear and sprocket assembly, remove the chain from the sprocket. Remove the 3 nuts and bolts that mount the gear and sprocket to the base of the opener. Lift the gear and sprocket assembly out of the opener and drop the new one into its place.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
