I'm trying to create compost for my garden and needed to know how to get started inexpensively.
Finding a bin to begin your compost pile is virtually your only expense in this project. You can use almost any type of container that is large enough to contain your pile. A container that will house about 3 cu. ft. is a normal size.
Once you have your bin, I recommend following the tips in the following Manage My Home articles:Making Compost Building a Compost Pile What not to Compost These tips should help you begin composting in an inexpensive manner.Unless local ordinance requires that you use a container or you're worried about attracting wildlife, you don't need a container -- just pile up your food scraps, shredded office paper and grass clippings, and let microorganisms do the rest. To speed them up, turn the pile with a pitchfork every few weeks.
