The walking belt is not working on my treadmill and the console has all 8's displayed. It is a Proform 585.

It is a model number 831 297680, 585 Proform treadmill. The walking belt suddenly stopped working while I was walking on it. It came to a sudden halt. The console has all 8's on it. I do hear a motor sound or noise when I turn on the treadmill rather than no sound.

Someone will have to test the voltages to the motor controller and motor to determine the problem. The 8's in the display indicate the treadmill is not receiving a signal from the reed switch mounted by the front roller. This should not cause the treadmill to stop running or not start.

The noise you hear might be the drive motor running and the drive belt is broken. If so you will see it when you remove the motor hood.

I am sending you a wiring schematic for your treadmill. The schematic has the voltages on it you should read.

If the incline motor works, the circuit breaker and the key switch are good.

Test for 120 volts ac across the 2 wires to the motor overload. If the overload is closed, you will read 0 volts across it. If the overload is bad, you will read 120 volts ac across it.

The led's on the controller will help you diagnose the problem. I am sending you an image of the controller that will show you what the different led’s do.

If you have any more questions, send another email with details of the tests you have run and we will be glad to assist.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
