I have checked the fuel, and air filter, and drained and replaced the gas. It had done this before, but when I let it set for an hour or two it ran ok. It did take a little while for the engine to get up to speed. It ran fine for a couple of cuttings and then acted as if it ran out of gas. When I try to crank it (now for a couple of weeks) it fires up but goes dead again within seconds.
The most likely problem is the plunger on the fuel cut off solenoid is sticking. Remove the fuel line from the carburetor and catch the fuel in a clean container. Remove the fuel cut off solenoid from the carburetor and see if the plunger is not moving freely in the solenoid. Usually you can clean the solenoid and it will work.
Install the solenoid in the carburetor and lock the emergency brake on the tractor. Set in the seat and turn the ignition switch to run. You should hear a click as the fuel solenoid opens. The fuel filter or fuel line might also be clogged. Lower the fuel line and drain fuel into a clean container for 1-2 minutes into a clean container. You can put the gas in the fuel tank when you are through. The fuel should run a full stream the size of the inner diameter of the fuel line. If there is any change in the fuel flow, something is restricted in the fuel filter or fuel line. The fuel cap vent might also not be working properly. Remove the fuel cap and if that makes the engine start and run, replace the fuel cap.Member
