The keyless entry and remotes have worked intermittently on my GDO in the recent past. They are not working at all now except with a remote if I am standing within a couple of feet of the GDO unit. Also the light that comes on when the door goes up or down and then is supposed to turn off after about 2 minutes is intermittently staying on all the time. I have checked the wires on the unit and all appear to be connected properly and snugly. I have tried setting the keyless entry (hit the learn button) but it won't reset. But what does happen is the light behind the keypad flashes.
Short range on garage door opener remotes is usually caused by radio frequency signal (rf) in the area. Radio frequency confuses the logic board in the opener and it doesn't open or close as it should.
To search for something in your home that might be causing rf, begin by removing the battery from 1 remote. If there is no change put that battery back and remove the other one. Unplug one garage door opener, if there is no change plug that opener in and unplug the other one. If you have lost or replaced a remote in the past, search through drawers and the couch and chair cushions for the missing remote and remove the battery. These are the most common reasons for short range. To determine if the rf is coming from something in the garage or house, turn the house circuit breakers off one at a time. Try a remote after each breaker is turned off. If the range improves, the rf is coming from something on that circuit. If you don't find anything causing the short range, you can schedule service and get a Sears technician to check the openers. Sears technicians carry a meter that will find the source of the rf signal.Your symptoms are classic for rf signal in the area. Sometimes the rf comes from something in the neighborhood. The meter the technicians carry can pin point the signal.Member
