Took bulb out of Craftsman garage door opener made popping noise inside, now bulbs/opener won't work

Light bulbs had to be loosened or tightened all the time. As I was taking a bulb out it made a popping noise inside and the bulbs both went out. Now the opener just clicks when activated.

The light bulbs are not connected to any other than power. By changing them you could not of damaged or hit anything that could cause the problems you are having. It might be a coincidence you heard the pop as you were up there. That kind of sound could only mean that it grounded out or has a short and there is really nothing you can do other than replacing the logic board. I cannot guarantee that this will fix the problem though. With those kinds of issues you might look in to a whole new unit. Does the opener have a surge protector on it? We recommend a surge protector on all units, 900 joules or higher. This might be the root cause as well. I noticed you have 2 identical questions so I will delete the other one. Thanks BB

The same thing has just happened to me and I am certain that there was no other event than turning the bulb to fry the logic board. Please email me at montvert@vermontel.net to discuss.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
