I have 2 garage door openers which the track or rail from the motor to the door runs up into the ceiling on both door openers. Not from the motor side but the door side. Is this common practice.I had someone come out and look at them and they said its common, but I've never seen them installed this way. I'm looking at replacing everything and needed your help. Both are Genie garage door openers which are NOT belt driven.
It is actually called for in the book, if you have one.
When installing an opener not many things are put in plumb or level, and this is on purpose. The opener should head should angle down for 2 reasons. The first is that it puts the opener lights below the top of the door for maximum light coverage. Otherwise it would cause a shadow under the door. The second is that the opener needs different amounts of strength when raising and lowering a door. When the door is all the way up it is primarily pushing the door across(level). When the door is almost all the way down then it is pushing mostly down to get the best seal possible, and the track through it's own devices seals the top and sides. Also if the opener was higher in the back it has a bigger chance of damaging your top panel. It doesn't matter the brand or the drive type this is typical. BBMember
