My Craftsman 25cc gas weedwacker cord will not retract. I have changed the pulley, but the cord still won't retract. What is next?

I have a Craftsman 25cc/1.5 cu.in 2 cycle Model 358.791030 gas weedwacker. When I try to start it, the cord will not retract. I have changed the pulley and that didn't correct the problem. Please help.

When you wind the starter rope on the pulley, you have to turn the pulley. Let the pulley wind the rope on as it is putting tension on the starter spring.

This can be dangerous if the spring comes loose. The starter can unwind violently and can cut you or damage an eye. Keep the pulley pressed against the spring as you rewind the cord.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
