My Craftsman 1/2 hp garage door opener, model 139.53648srt, won't program with my two remote controls.

My remotes are 139.53879. They have worked for 10 years. When I got back after 2 weeks gone, neither would work. The door opens and closes with the wall button. I put new batteries (2016) (plus side down) in the remotes and erased all remote codes (6 seconds) with SRT button. I pressed the SRT and released. The green SRT light goes on for 30 seconds. I pressed the remote push button at same time for many seconds but the green light never flashed. I tried variations (door closed for programming, holding remote 2 feet away from hanging wire) by clicking remote push button but the receiver never programs and is ignoring the remote push buttons. I have 3 function remote controls and tried all 3 buttons. How can I verify these two remotes are really transmitting? Why would the receiver not program? I have tried everything I could think of from owners manual page 33 and this web site.

It sounds like you have tried every variation possible to program the remotes. I don't think both remotes would stop working at the same time.

If you have a deluxe wall control, it has a lock feature that locks out the remotes. If this feature is on, the lock light should be flashing on the wall control. If this is the case, hold the lock button on the wall switch in for 5 seconds. This should unlock the remotes.

If the wall switch does not have the remotes locked out, the logic board in the garage door opener has probably failed.

Take 1 or all 3 remotes to a Sears Retail store and try to program them to one of their openers. You will need to erase the codes in the new rolling code openers in the store to get your remotes to program to the opener.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
