My Craftsman Garage Door Opener 139.53910D needs me to stand right next to it when I press the remot

Model # 139.53910D I've had this garage door opener since 12/9/05 and it's been working fine. Yesterday was the last day that it worked fine. This morning, my husband's remote wouldn't work when he backed out the car. When I backed out my car later that morning and used my car remote, I wasn't able to close it either. When I came home and tested it, I needed to be right under or near the garage motor in order for the remote to work. I tried changing batteries but it's still the same. I also tried opening and closing from my car again (using the garage door opener included with the car) and it still wouldn't work unless my car was parked right under the motor. Please let me know if you have any ideas about this. Thanks.

This could be a couple of things.

First did you buy anything electronic the day of or before the opener stopped working fine? It could be a computer down to a blender. Openers are made by fcc regulations to receive interference, but some electronic devices do cause them trouble though. Even if they are plugged in but not on. If you have recently purchased any device that is messing with the opener you need to chose which one to keep

You could purchase an external antenna to boost the signal. This works sometimes but not always.

You can purchase an external receiver on a different frequency to solve this problem. Although you would need to buy remotes and so on to match frequencies too.

You could buy a new opener on a different frequency, and it would come with remotes.

Any of these can be found at sears.com, have the model number ready. Thanks BB

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
