Why does only one drive wheel on my mower pull?

Craftsman Model 917.376742 Drive wheels only working on right side. Likely problem? Is it a simple repair?

I'd recommend you take the non-pulling wheel off and check the drive gear and the wheel gear to see if there is any damage or wear. In most cases, the gearing in the wheel is the cause. Give that a look and if everything there looks good, resubmit your question with that information and anything else you may notice while you have the wheel off and I'm sure we can help you get to the bottom of the problem.

I have no answer, but am looking to buy a 917.376742 for parts. Apparently you are one of three folks I can find on the entire web who has one...

I have had to replace the left drive wheel 4 or 5 times in the past two years because all of the teeth get chewed off. I am putting the wheel on correctly, I think. no play and i tighten it securely but i can hear it slip under load and soon, the plastic teeth are all gone. I suspect the pinion and plan on ordering it from SearsPartsDirect. Any suggestions or opinion regarding this type of drive failure?

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
