Need to install some sort of drainage in front of a walk out cellar door to prevent water seeping in
ground immediately in front of cellar door is sloped towards the house and then it slopes away starting about 5 feet away. Would like to add some sort of catch basin with a pipe leading away to a distance of at least 10 feet. Looking for materials and a design for this.

This is a very common problem and could have many solutions or combinations of solutions for your situation.

There is a method of drainage rock. First you will have to dig down 18-24 inches and replace the dirt with rock, and it needs to be replaced all the way out to where it can drain freely. You lay larger rocks down first and then on top of that smaller ones and so on. The largest would be 2" or so and the smallest 1/2 ", or gravel This allows the water to funnel down in to the rock and the rock will not become saturated with more rain than the ground itself can handle.

Another way is piping. They make special 4" drainage piping with holes drilled in them to catch the water and funnel it away. Make sure the pipe is long enough to bring the water far enough away. You still need to dig down12" wide and 6-8" deep and surround the pipe with 1/2" rock. This allows the holes not to get plugged up with debris. You actually could do both of these together.

Another is to put in a concrete drainage canal. I recommend this to be done by a contractor though. Thanks BB
