You're about to make a pretty big mistake putting a single cylinder engine in place of a twin. The torque produced on a single just isn't going to be enough to carry that large of a deck and transmission. I don't recommend doing that at all. Even if you're going with a top of the line brand replacement engine, the power made on the single just isn't going to be enough.

Outside of that, the replace an engine is pretty much cut and dry. Take the PTO clutch off, remove the drive pulley from the engine. Remove the 4 bolts that hold the engine to the frame. Remove the muffler bolts/nuts. Take the throttle, choke, and fuel lines loose. Take the old engine off. Set the new engine on and connect everything in reverse order.

I guess to really make sure you understand the differences between a single and twin engine I'll put it in automotive terms. I have a GMC truck that has a small block engine in it. It produces right around 220horsepower. I also have a Ford truck that has a big block in it. That engine produces about 225 horsepower. Not much difference right? Wrong. I have loaded the Ford up with almost 8Klbs of stuff and had a trailer connected to it and pulled it all over town with no problems. The GMC wouldn't even deal with half that weight and no trailer. The torque just isn't there.

When you're dealing with a load, torque is what you're after. The mower deck is a load. In today's market, with things costing what they cost, if that tractor could be functional with a single cylinder engine, it would be an option. I just cannot stress enough the mistake you're about to make.

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
