the rope snapped and the spring broke. how do i replace the starter
You'll need to remove the outer engine shroud. That's the plastic part that covers the top of the engine. Should be just a few screws that hold it in place. Once you have that out of the way the starter is sitting right there. You can unbolt it and take the starter off. If the rope broke, you won't need to replace the entire starter unless you just want to. You can get a new rope and just re-rope the starter and you should be back in business.
