I am trying to program a Sears touch pad key remote garage door opener and am unsuccessful. Help!

This touch pad key remote garage door opener is mounted on the outside of the garage entry to allow the opening and closing of the garage door should one not have a radio remote. I have tried to follow the directions on the door cover of the touch pad, but it doesn't seem to work. The expected number of blinking lights is exceeded. I've replaced the battery and nothing seems to work.

There should be a colored button on the back(single light) or side(double light) on the opener motor head. If the batteries are good then press this button and within 30 seconds enter the 4 digit code and then press the up/down button on the keypad and the light bulb should flash. If not and the remotes are working properly then you need a new keypad. Make sure if you get a new one it is compatible with that series of opener. Clicker also makes a universal keypad. BB

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
