My mower, 6.0 HP Mulcher 20", won't start. I pull the cord and it pulls out of my hand, with force? Why?
It is a Craftsman, 6.0 horse power, Mulcher 20", model no. 917.387282, Serial no. 120298M. When I try to pull the cord it recoils with much force, pulling it out of my hand towards the engine. How do I fix it??? Thank you

Remove the spark plug and pull the starter rope several times. This will clear any liquid that might be inside the cylinder.

If you don't find anything inside the cylinder, the key in the flywheel is probably sheared. You have to remove the blower housing on top of the engine and remove the flywheel to check the key.

If you hit something with the blade hard enough to shear the key, the crankshaft might also be bent. If you replace the key and the engine still kicks back, you should probably replace the mower.
