My craftsman garage door opener won't close unless I keep my finger pressed on it? Why?

Almost all of the time when someone tells me that it is in the safety sensors. No matter the brand or year these sensors need to be hooked up, free of debris and ligned up. More than likely they have a light on each one. And more than likely one has been bumped. If it is obvious then just eye it up. If not eye them both up. Both lights should shine and they might be different colors. Also look for debris on the door itself.

If it is ligned up and still not working check the little bell wire that goes from the sensors to the motor head. They might need replaced. If this does not fix the problem, you either need new sensors or a new logic board. BB

This is a great place to go for advice, especially if you're low on funds and you could resolve the problem before calling and paying a service call, if it's an easy fix. I'm glad you are there for me.
