The main gear on the opener is worn out. I ordered a new one and istalled it. In trying to set up the opening and closing I can see that this new gear is wearing the same as the old one. I need to know why this is hapening and what to do about it. The worm gear is fine, it's the large gear that the worm drives that is the problem. Either there is too much pressure on the gear or the two gears are out of alignment. What can I do to fix this? Craftsman model number 139.53615SR
There are only two reasons this problem is happening.
1- Most "gear kits" include all three gears in them. It is recommended that all 3 be replaced at the same time. There are no "alignment" adjustments, nor can you put it on upside down or backwards. You do have to make sure that you put the pins that hold the star gear in place back in well.2- There is something wrong with the door or balance of it. To check this pull the red cord down and run the door up and down many times. Check for a smooth ride and ease of operation. If nothing, push instead of pull down. Push from where the opener pushes from to check this. Sometimes the door acts differently when pushed. Also check the rollers and the bearings inside the rollers. Check the balance of the door. It should stay all the way up, easily pull down to 1/2 way and stay and easily pull all the way down and stay. It should also be well lubricated with silicone spray. These are the only 2 reasons your gear could be going out again so soon. BBMember
