Why does my compressor blow the breaker after a few seconds of running?

The capacitor or motor can cause that issue. If it's happening pretty fast after you turn it on, I would suspect the capacitor as being the problem. You may want to take the capacitor off and have it tested somewhere locally (electrical supply house, etc...). If the capacitor checks good, the motor has failed more than likely. There's just not too many things that can cause this.

It is worth noting that I am making suggestions assuming that the electrical and connections in your home/shop are good and up to code.
