can I safely use my lawnmower as the front baffle just broke off during use?

Yes, you can still use it. But if you're mulching, it's not going to do as good of a job as it should or can. Also, the baffle being gone will cause lots of grass build up on the transmission so you'll need to make sure you clean that off when you get done mowing and the machine has cooled down a bit.
